Staff Finance Systems Engineer

About the role

This position serves as the primary technical authority for Canva's revenue systems, bridging the gap between complex Order to Cash processes and senior leadership requirements. You will design and defend architecture for revenue recognition and billing, ensuring compliance and data integrity as the company scales toward public-market operations.

Key facts

What you'll do

• Manage the end-to-end B2B and B2C Order to Cash lifecycle, including NetSuite, Zuora, payment gateways, and collections.
• Lead system and process improvement initiatives in partnership with Revenue Platform Engineering, Finance Data, and external vendors.
• Monitor the O2C landscape to assess the impact of changes on financial reporting and business logic.
• Maintain a working knowledge of sales compensation and general ledger integrations to ensure cross-system data accuracy.
• Implement and maintain SOX and ITGC monitoring controls and assist with financial audits.
• Conduct technical root cause analysis to resolve system issues and implement permanent fixes.
• Evaluate system performance and deploy optimization strategies to improve efficiency.
• Document all processes to meet the standards of management, auditors, and external advisors.

Requirements

• 10+ years of experience in finance systems engineering with deep expertise in Order to Cash and revenue recognition.
• Proven ability to own multi-system architecture decisions spanning ERP, billing, and revenue platforms.
• Experience translating high-level, ambiguous mandates into scoped, resourced technical roadmaps.
• Ability to act as the technical lead in discussions with Finance and Engineering stakeholders, defending architectural recommendations under scrutiny.
• Strong understanding of ASC 606 and IFRS 15 standards.
• Proficiency in SQL and data tooling for investigating cross-system discrepancies.
• Demonstrated history of creating standards or frameworks adopted by teams outside of your own.
