About the role
Canva is looking for backend engineers to build and maintain the systems that support our global design platform. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop scalable services and improve the performance of our infrastructure.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Design and implement features within our existing service architecture.
- Develop and maintain backend services that support internal systems and user-facing experiences.
- Write clean, tested, and maintainable code.
- Partner with product managers, designers, and other engineers to deliver high-quality solutions.
- Engage in code reviews, pair programming, and technical team discussions.
- Enhance system health by monitoring performance, writing tests, and resolving bugs.
- Grow your skills through mentorship and exposure to various parts of the engineering stack.
Requirements
- Professional experience building backend systems using Java.
- Strong understanding of Java fundamentals, including multithreading, service design, and performance optimization.
- Knowledge of distributed systems and experience developing or consuming RESTful APIs.
- Ability to manage tasks from initial design through to deployment.
- Commitment to engineering best practices such as documentation, testing, and monitoring.
- Hands-on experience utilizing AI tools to improve coding impact and efficiency.
