Payments Product Manager
Job description
About the role
Senior Product Manager, Payments and Financial Infrastructure
Canals constructs software solutions for wholesale distributors, enabling operational excellence through automation and artificial intelligence. Our platform serves the entities that power the real economy, including electrical supplies, plumbing products, roofing materials, and HVAC equipment. Each day, thousands of users depend on our systems to manage orders, control purchasing, process accounts payable, and optimize essential business workflows. The company is currently profitable and experiencing rapid expansion, supported by a team of approximately one hundred professionals located across North and South America. Core values include a commitment to building high-quality products, hiring outstanding talent, and fostering a workplace where skilled professionals can achieve significant career success.
We are seeking a Senior Product Manager to join the product team in an early-stage capacity. This position will concentrate on developing the payment and financial infrastructure layer that facilitates transactions throughout our platform. The role involves shaping the movement of funds through intricate operational workflows. Success requires close collaboration with engineering teams and external payment providers to create seamless and dependable experiences for both businesses and their customers.
The ideal candidate must balance systems-level thinking with strong product instincts. Payments products demand technical proficiency and superior user experience design. The position requires deep consideration of onboarding, trust mechanisms, reconciliation processes, compliance tradeoffs, conversion optimization, and the reduction of operational friction within high-risk financial workflows. The Senior Product Manager must excel at simplifying complexity, transforming complicated transaction flows and financial edge cases into intuitive and trustworthy product experiences.
What You'll Do
You will own and help define the strategic direction for payments and financial infrastructure across the entire platform. This involves working directly with engineering on payment architecture, provider integrations, onboarding flows, and transaction systems. Collaboration with external payment providers and platforms is essential to support evolving product capabilities.
You will design payment experiences that prioritize trust, clarity, reliability, and operational efficiency. You will perform thorough analysis of user workflows to identify friction points across onboarding, payments, payouts, and transaction visibility. You will translate complex operational and financial requirements into clearly defined product specifications and scalable system architectures. Decisions will balance speed, risk, compliance considerations, and user experience.
You will define metrics related to transaction success, onboarding conversion, operational efficiency, and payment adoption. You will engage in close cross-functional collaboration with product, engineering, operations, and leadership teams to ensure effective execution. You will analyze user behavior to refine the payment journey and enhance the overall product experience. You will manage the end-to-end lifecycle of payment features from discovery through launch and optimization. You will partner with data teams to establish reporting frameworks that measure the health of financial operations. Ensuring that payment systems meet the needs of both internal stakeholders and external customers is central to this position.
Requirements
Candidates must possess a minimum of four years of product management experience, ideally within B2B SaaS, fintech, payments, or platform environments. Demonstrated experience working with payment processors, Payment Service Providers (PSPs), merchant onboarding systems, or financial infrastructure products is required. A strong understanding of transaction lifecycles, payment operations, onboarding experiences, and financial workflow design is essential. The Senior Product Manager must be capable of simplifying technically complex systems into intuitive user experiences. Excellent communication and collaboration skills are necessary to work effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
You must exhibit a high ownership mindset, with the ability to operate independently within fast-moving environments. Previous experience working with early-stage teams or fast-paced startups is expected. Strong product intuition regarding trust, reliability, operational workflows, and user behavior in financial contexts is critical. You must be comfortable navigating ambiguity and making informed decisions with incomplete information. The ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical audiences is a significant asset. A commitment to ethical decision-making in handling sensitive financial data is mandatory.
