Job description
Director, Product Building at camunda
About the role
Camunda is establishing a new division focused on the user experience layer of its orchestration platform. This area is rapidly evolving, driven by an AI-first approach to product development. You will lead this new sub-division, defining its structure and operational model to deliver innovative products.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Oversee the Camunda Experience sub-division, managing approximately 25 individuals including three Pod Leads, and be accountable for the business results of the entire experience layer. This includes the Camunda Hub, client libraries and SDKs, the AI-native builder interface, AI capabilities, web applications for managing human tasks, and integrations with business applications.
- Implement and manage the new Builder operating model, establishing governance, meeting cadences, quality standards, and collaboration forums that enable Builder pods to function effectively. This model consolidates product, design, and engineering responsibilities within a single role, emphasizing rapid customer validation and delivery.
- Drive the delivery of the initial set of products from the Builder model, including an updated Camunda Hub for process asset management and collaborative design, and the AI-native builder experience, ensuring clear customer value is released iteratively.
- Architect the organizational structure for the domain, defining pod structures, responsibilities, inter-pod communication, and ownership boundaries across the Hub, SDKs, AI-native builder, human task interfaces, and business application integrations to ensure scalability.
- Collaborate with Strategy Product Managers to shape the long-term product direction, translating high-level objectives into a concrete domain strategy, phased roadmap, and investment priorities, while feeding insights from the pods back into company-level strategy.
- Champion AI-first engineering practices within the domain, enforcing a standardized repository structure, investing in reusable AI contexts and skills, shared development and deployment pipelines, and a governance framework that balances standards with flexibility, enabling each pod to function as a high-throughput AI-first production line.
- Create the necessary conditions for scalable and sustainable product maintenance and support, clarifying ownership, balancing new feature development with product health, and ensuring long-term reliability and user trust as adoption of the Hub, SDKs, and AI-native interfaces grows.
Requirements
- A minimum of 10 years in product leadership roles, with experience managing other managers and accountability for business outcomes in a complex, customer-facing product area.
- Demonstrated success in designing domain operating models, not just managing existing ones, including defining pod structures, interfaces, governance, and quality standards.
- Proven experience leading teams that deliver end-to-end products, utilizing AI as a core execution method rather than solely for personal productivity.
- Deep practical understanding of building products with AI as the primary execution layer, having shipped real customer-facing software.
- Possess strong design sensibilities and a high standard for craft, which you actively cultivate within the teams you lead.
- Maintain close customer relationships, engaging in direct customer conversations and grounding decisions in tangible user evidence.
- Capable of shaping strategy in partnership with Strategy and Product leaders, rather than solely executing predefined plans.
- Ability to thrive in a fully remote, global, asynchronous work environment that emphasizes high individual ownership.
Nice to have
- Prior experience in roles resembling a Product Builder, Product Engineer, or Design Engineer.
- Background in developer tools, enterprise B2B platforms, or products for low-code/pro-code builders.

- Experience leading significant operating model or AI-native transformations while maintaining delivery momentum.
