Senior Full Stack Engineer, AI Scheduling
Job description
About the role
Calendly is seeking a senior engineer to help evolve our scheduling platform as we transition from a monolith to a service-oriented architecture. You will report to an Engineering Manager and focus on building features and infrastructure that support our enterprise customers. In this capacity, you will own significant portions of the scheduling workflow and ensure that AI-assisted features integrate seamlessly into the existing product. You will be responsible for translating ambiguous product requirements into robust technical solutions that meet high standards of quality and performance. The role demands a balance of hands-on implementation and strategic thinking about long-term platform health. You will work closely with cross-functional partners to deliver measurable improvements to the customer experience.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Design and implement new scheduling features that leverage AI capabilities to enhance enterprise workflows.
- Refactor legacy components within the monolith to improve scalability and maintainability as the platform evolves.
- Build and maintain resilient Node.js services that communicate efficiently with distributed APIs and large language models.
- Collaborate with product managers and designers to translate business objectives into precise technical specifications.
- Optimize database queries and application logic to reduce latency and improve response times for critical user paths.
- Lead technical design discussions and ensure that solutions align with architectural best practices across squads.
- Perform thorough code reviews to uphold code quality and share knowledge across the engineering organization.
- Mentor junior engineers by providing guidance on implementation strategies and debugging complex issues.
- Participate actively in on-call rotations to respond to production incidents and support post-deployment monitoring.
- Write comprehensive tests and documentation to ensure that new functionality is maintainable over time.
- Partner with security teams to identify and mitigate potential vulnerabilities in scheduling and authentication flows.
- Explore emerging technologies and evaluate their applicability to future product roadmaps and customer needs.
- Coordinate with customer success and support teams to gather feedback and drive iterative improvements.
- Implement observability practices to gain insight into system behavior and quickly identify failures.
- Contribute to the broader engineering culture by sharing best practices and lessons learned from production deployments.
Requirements
- Possess 7-10 years of professional software development experience in a SaaS or tech-focused environment.
- Demonstrate the ability to independently design, build, and deploy full-stack production changes without constant supervision.
- Have hands-on experience building and maintaining Node.js services that interact with distributed APIs or LLMs in production.
- Show practical experience with microservices patterns and large-scale monolith-to-service refactoring efforts.
- Prove you can own the full lifecycle of a feature from initial discovery through deployment and ongoing maintenance.
- Exhibit strong analytical skills for identifying root causes and crafting scalable, clean, and well-tested code.
- Have familiarity with AI coding assistants like Cursor or Copilot and the ability to critically evaluate generated code for correctness and safety.
- Be authorized to work in the United States, as Calendly does not provide immigration sponsorship for this role.
- Have a strong understanding of modern software development practices including version control, continuous integration, and testing methodologies.
- Be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment where priorities can shift based on customer needs and business goals.
- Communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders to ensure alignment on project objectives.
- Take ownership of your work and demonstrate reliability in meeting deadlines and commitments.
