About the role

We are looking for a software engineer to join our team as a contingent worker to build and scale our Direct-to-Consumer e-commerce platform. You will focus on high-level architecture and technical execution within a TypeScript-heavy environment.

What you'll do

• Design and architect features for our e-commerce platform using Next.js and Azure.
• Manage core systems such as payment processing, authentication flows, and CMS integrations.
• Oversee technical projects from the initial design phase through to production deployment.
• Maintain our TypeScript monorepo using Turborepo.
• Integrate third-party tools including CommerceTools, Contentful, Auth0, and Braze.
• Define engineering standards for testing, monitoring, and deployment.
• Provide mentorship to junior and mid-level team members via code reviews and pair programming.
• Work with design and product teams to convert business needs into functional code.
• Improve application performance, specifically targeting bundle sizes and Core Web Vitals.
• Ensure the platform meets global standards for accessibility, internationalization, and security compliance like PCI-DSS and GDPR.

Requirements

• 6+ years of professional software engineering experience, including at least 3 years in full-stack roles.
• Expert proficiency in TypeScript, specifically regarding generics, advanced types, and type safety.
• Demonstrated experience building production applications with Next.js and React, including App Router, Server Components, and API routes.
• Background in building and scaling Direct-to-Consumer e-commerce platforms.
• Knowledge of payment systems, including PCI compliance, fraud prevention, and third-party integrations.
• Experience architecting and maintaining serverless applications on platforms like AWS Lambda or Azure Functions.
• Understanding of web architecture, performance optimization, and scalable infrastructure.
• Experience with headless CMS platforms and content modeling.
• Proficiency in unit, integration, and end-to-end testing strategies.
• Ability to communicate technical concepts and influence decisions across teams.
• Experience mentoring engineers to improve overall team technical output.

Nice to have

• Experience with the Azure ecosystem, specifically Service Bus, Functions, Application Insights, and Blob Storage.
• Hands-on work with CommerceTools.
• Advanced knowledge of Next.js features like edge runtime, streaming, and caching strategies.
• Experience with authentication protocols such as SAML, OAuth 2.0, and JWT, or identity providers like Auth0.
• Familiarity with error monitoring tools like New Relic or Sentry.
• Knowledge of containerization with Docker and CI/CD pipeline management.
• Experience with edge computing, CDN strategies, and global content delivery.
• History of open source contributions or thought leadership in web development.
