About the role

Brightwheel is building an AI-native product engineering team to transform how early education programs operate. You will design and ship automated workflows that assist teachers and administrators by anticipating needs and executing tasks. This role focuses on turning complex user challenges into reliable, high-impact software solutions.

Key facts

What you'll do

• Manage the full lifecycle of product features from initial discovery to post-launch iteration.
• Integrate AI into both the development process and the final user experience.
• Develop prototypes to validate assumptions and clarify requirements through working code.
• Maintain high standards for security, privacy, system reliability, and observability.
• Create customer-facing workflows for areas including billing, enrollment, classroom management, and family communication.
• Collaborate with design and product teams to solve ambiguous problems and deliver measurable results.

Requirements

• Minimum of 5 years of professional software engineering experience.
• Strong grasp of engineering fundamentals across APIs, data, infrastructure, and product surfaces.
• Demonstrated history of taking features from concept to production.
• Proven ability to use AI agents and tools to increase development velocity without sacrificing quality.
• Experience automating workflows for yourself, your team, or the broader organization.
• Ability to navigate ambiguity and translate vague requirements into functional software.
• Strong communication skills and a focus on maintaining customer trust and data privacy.

Nice to have

• Experience shipping AI-integrated products or internal tools to production environments.
• Knowledge of orchestration, retrieval, evaluation, and agent workflows.
• Background in operations-heavy domains like fintech, healthcare, vertical SaaS, or education.
• A portfolio of side projects, open-source work, or demos that demonstrate technical initiative.
• Experience building features with proven impact on user adoption or business outcomes.
• History of improving mobile or web performance through shared patterns and tooling.
