Engineering Manager, Travel

About the role

You will establish and lead a new full-stack engineering team focused on the next generation of our travel platform. This is a greenfield opportunity where you will define the team mandate, hire talent, and set the technical and product roadmap from the ground up.

What you'll do

• Recruit and onboard engineers to build a new team from scratch.
• Determine the scope and focus of the team within the broader Travel organization.
• Establish technical and product strategy, prioritizing features and architectural decisions.
• Deliver a competitive, user-facing travel product while maintaining high engineering standards.
• Mentor and coach engineers to support their professional growth.
• Collaborate with Product, Expenses, and Travel stakeholders to align on delivery goals.
• Incorporate AI-native approaches into team operations and development.

Requirements

• Proven history of engineering leadership, including hiring and scaling teams for customer-facing products.
• Strong product intuition with the ability to navigate and justify UX and product tradeoffs.
• Technical expertise equivalent to a staff-level engineer, capable of earning the respect of high-performing teams.
• Deep customer empathy and focus.
• Clear and effective written and verbal communication skills.
• Demonstrated experience in coaching and developing engineers at varying levels of seniority.

Nice to have

• Experience in the travel industry, such as working with online booking or travel management platforms like Navan.
• Previous success in launching a new product area or building a team from the ground up.
