About the role
Brex is seeking a legal professional to support the expansion and refinement of our bill pay and payments infrastructure. You will act as a primary legal advisor to our product, design, and engineering teams, ensuring our financial features remain compliant while maintaining high velocity.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Partner with product, design, and engineering teams from the initial concept phase through final launch to guide feature development.
- Offer practical legal guidance regarding money transmission regulations and payment flow architecture.
- Evaluate the regulatory impact of new product designs to assist teams in making informed build-versus-defer decisions.
- Monitor and interpret federal, state, and international payment laws to ensure proactive compliance.
- Review and draft customer-facing terms, disclosures, marketing materials, and product agreements.
- Coordinate with compliance, risk, sales, and marketing departments to resolve complex business challenges.
- Manage outside counsel when necessary to maintain cost-effective legal operations.
- Assist with requirements related to banking partners, payment networks, and licensing.
Requirements
- Law degree and active admission to practice in at least one jurisdiction.
- Minimum of 4 years of professional experience split between law firms and fintech organizations.
- Expertise in money transmission, payments, and money movement regulations.
- Knowledge of the Bank Secrecy Act, AML requirements, EFTA, Regulation E, and NACHA rules.
- Ability to explain complex regulatory concepts through clear writing and presentations.
- Capacity to manage multiple projects with an ownership-focused mindset.

- Previous in-house legal experience at a high-growth payments or money movement company.
- Direct experience negotiating with banking partners or payment networks.
- History of professional interaction with regulatory agencies.
