Senior Platform Software Engineer II

About the role

This role focuses on developing and maintaining Braze's internal infrastructure-as-a-service platform. You will apply engineering principles, operational discipline, and automation to enhance infrastructure reliability. The team aims to automate infrastructure deployment and operations, supporting Braze's massive scale and diverse technology stack.

What you'll do

• Collaborate with engineering teams to define and implement IaaS products for faster building and deployment.
• Improve monitoring and alerting to focus on symptoms rather than outages.
• Ensure Braze meets strict enterprise-grade customer SLAs.
• Design, build, and operate internal software frameworks for large-scale distributed processing, handling trillions of jobs daily.
• Own the scaling, reliability, failure modes, and operational safety of these systems.
• Create abstractions, tooling, and guardrails for safe distributed processing by application teams.
• Enhance observability, debuggability, and operational ergonomics for job-processing systems.
• Develop, implement, and maintain custom infrastructure services and centralized tooling.
• Reduce operational burden and improve engineering workflows through IaaS automation.
• Participate in a PagerDuty rotation to respond to availability incidents and provide support.
• Proactively prevent incidents during on-call shifts.
• Conduct retrospectives on incidents to drive system improvements and automation.

Requirements

• 5+ years of full-stack development experience.
• Ability to think systematically about interfaces, boundaries, edge cases, failure modes, and behaviors.
• Strong desire to collaborate, document, and deliver quickly, including across global remote teams.
• Proactive attitude towards identifying and fixing issues.
• Motivation to solve everyday challenges for software engineers and automate repetitive tasks.
• Excellent ability to manage multiple tasks and expectations.
• Experience working on large-scale API-driven systems.
• Experience with application and systems observability.
• Experience building or automating Kubernetes-based operators or custom resources.
