Senior Database Reliability Engineer

Key facts

What you'll do

• Take primary responsibility for the health, availability, and security of our production database environments.
• Collaborate with engineering and data teams to manage schema evolution from conception through deployment, ensuring compatibility.
• Develop and maintain automated testing and deployment processes for data, including large-scale production data validation.
• Proactively identify potential system weaknesses and implement automated monitoring and alerting solutions.
• Document and automate routine tasks to improve operational efficiency.
• Evaluate new database technologies and features to meet scaling and global uptime demands.
• Manage database backup and recovery strategies, and contribute to disaster recovery planning.
• Troubleshoot and perform root cause analysis for production database incidents, participating in incident response.
• Communicate significant data changes to the data warehousing team.

Requirements

• A minimum of 5 years of experience managing MySQL/CloudSQL at scale.
• Expertise in SQL and MySQL specifics, including schema design.
• In-depth understanding of MySQL internal workings.
• Strong knowledge of MySQL replication, SQL tuning, and database optimization with a focus on minimizing downtime.
• Experience operating Google Cloud Spanner at scale, including schema design and query optimization.
• A Bachelor of Science in Computer Science or a comparable field.

Nice to have

• Prior experience in the payments industry or a related financial sector.
• Familiarity with the Google Cloud Platform toolset.
• Experience with infrastructure as code practices.
• Experience with Redis.
• Experience with global, multi-region deployments and sharding strategies.
