Data Engineer

About the role

Braintrust is seeking a hands-on engineer to build and manage the data infrastructure that supports our scaling business operations. As the primary data hire, you will design the systems, queues, and models that connect our internal data to our go-to-market workflows.

What you'll do

• Create a unified customer data platform that resolves identity across product, marketing, and sales sources.
• Develop the engine for account scoring and routing, ensuring all ownership decisions are transparent and reversible.
• Build and maintain the workers and queues required for data enrichment and activation.
• Implement reverse-ETL processes to push signals into Salesforce and Slack.
• Establish row and column level governance within the data model.
• Collaborate with product and engineering teams to define event schemas and usage data standards.
• Troubleshoot data pipelines across the entire stack, including Snowflake, vendor APIs, and downstream integrations.
• Architect data layers that support future AI agents for research and workflow automation.

Requirements

• Proven experience building backend systems, data platforms, or ML infrastructure.
• Technical proficiency with Snowflake, dbt, and orchestration tools like Dagster or Airflow.
• Ability to write production-grade backend code, including managing stateful jobs on AWS Batch or Lambda.
• Strong understanding of data modeling, schema evolution, and system lineage.
• Experience working with GTM teams and understanding the operational needs of Sales, RevOps, and Marketing.
• Ability to debug complex issues across multiple integrated systems.

Nice to have

• Prior experience building customer data platforms or account routing engines.
• Familiarity with usage-based pricing models or product-led growth strategies.
• Background in supporting enterprise sales motions and territory logic.
• Experience building internal AI agents for operational automation.
• Proficiency with Fivetran, Terraform, GitHub Actions, Soda, or semantic layers like Omni or Looker.
• Prior experience as a Braintrust user.
