About the role
In this position, you will oversee a dedicated team within the Risk Services Group, which operates under the BNY Payments Enablement Enterprise Platform. Your primary focus will be on delivering accessible services aimed at reducing risks and fraud across various payment channels. You will collaborate closely with our enterprise fraud program, making expertise in fraud strategies essential.

What you'll do
- Manage the product backlog for your team, ensuring it aligns with the platform's objectives and strategic goals.
- Work with stakeholders from Business, Operations, Technology, Compliance, and Client Services to clarify business challenges and desired outcomes.
- Apply knowledge of AI and ML techniques for risk management and fraud detection.
- Convert complex business requirements into clear user stories and acceptance criteria.
- Prioritize tasks in the backlog to balance new feature development, technical improvements, and platform stability.
- Lead sprint planning, reviews, and retrospectives in collaboration with Scrum Leads and the development team.
- Ensure that solution designs are consistent with the long-term architecture and vision of the platform.
- Track and evaluate your team's performance, using data to drive decisions and improvements.
Requirements
- A bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience.
- Over 10 years of experience in transaction banking, with a minimum of 5-7 years in roles such as Product Owner, Product Manager, or Business Analyst.
- Demonstrated experience in payment processing.
Domain Expertise
- In-depth knowledge of payment systems, including wires, ACH, instant payments, and emerging networks.
- Understanding of international payments, correspondent banking, and global payment systems (e.g., SWIFT, SEPA, Fedwire, CHAPS).
- Familiarity with ISO 20022 and traditional messaging standards (MT messages).
- Experience with the integration and commercialization of API services.
- Background in AI and Machine Learning focused on fraud prevention.
- Experience in integrating third-party API functionalities into proprietary rule-based services.
- Strong awareness of fraud trends and operational risks in the payments sector.
- Knowledge of the regulatory environment and financial service risks, particularly those related to fraud prevention and data privacy.
Product Ownership & Agile Skills
- Proven experience as a Product Manager in Agile/Scrum settings, with a solid understanding of Agile principles and backlog management.
- Ability to create clear user stories, define acceptance criteria, and manage a product backlog effectively.
- Expertise in developing and executing a product vision and an 18-month strategic roadmap.
- Strong skills in stakeholder management, balancing the needs of operations, compliance, IT, and clients.
- Experience working with development teams, testers, and business subject matter experts to deliver quality solutions.
- Familiarity with navigating internal governance processes such as Business Process Change and Product Governance.
Technical & Analytical Skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with experience working across business and technical teams.
- Capability to analyze trends and utilize data to guide product decisions and enhance operational efficiency.
- Proficient with tools such as JIRA, Confluence, Excel, and data visualization software.
Soft Skills & Other Qualities
- Excellent communication and documentation skills, capable of translating complex payment processes into clear business and technical requirements.
- High attention to detail, particularly in compliance and risk-sensitive situations.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently in a dynamic, high-pressure environment.
- Comfortable collaborating in a global, cross-functional team across different time zones.
Practical notes
BNY offers a competitive compensation package, with a base salary expected to range from $127,000 to $220,000 annually, depending on experience and market location. This role may also include commission opportunities, discretionary bonuses, and other incentive packages.
