Senior Software Engineer, Cash App Taxes

About the role

You will join the Tax Engine Server Engineering team to develop and maintain the backend infrastructure for Cash App Taxes. This role focuses on converting complex tax regulations into reliable software that simplifies the filing process for millions of users.

What you'll do

• Design and build features for the tax filing experience, including federal and state logic and e-file submission.
• Convert tax requirements into clean, testable code in collaboration with Tax Product Specialists.
• Create tools and guardrails that allow non-technical team members to update code safely.
• Lead architectural decisions to ensure the platform remains secure, scalable, and maintainable.
• Establish standards for testing, deployment, and documentation.
• Coordinate with Quality Assurance, Design, Cloud Platform, and Customer Care teams.
• Monitor system performance and address reliability issues.
• Mentor team members through technical guidance and code reviews.
• Integrate AI-first practices into daily development workflows.

Requirements

• 6+ years of professional software development experience.
• Proficiency in backend system design, architecture, and object-oriented programming.
• Bachelor degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Ability to communicate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Methodical approach to debugging and problem-solving.
• Proven track record of delivering high-quality software on schedule.

• Compensation is based on a market-based pay structure with four geographic zones.
• Zone A: $217,800 - $326,800 USD
• Zone B: $207,000 - $310,400 USD
• Zone C: $196,100 - $294,100 USD
• Zone D: $185,200 - $277,800 USD
