Security Engineering Manager at Blend.
About the role
You will oversee the daily operations of a team focused on protecting our cloud banking platform and software development lifecycle. This role involves setting the technical roadmap, managing team growth, and balancing hands-on security architecture work with empathetic leadership.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Direct the security engineering team and manage hiring and technical execution.
- Implement defensive strategies across the software development lifecycle.
- Coordinate red teaming activities and integrate adversarial testing into development pipelines.
- Develop security frameworks, methods, and internal tooling.
- Collaborate with product, platform, and infrastructure teams to embed security practices.
- Define security approaches for AI, including LLM-backed features, agentic systems, and MCP servers.
- Perform web application penetration testing and threat modeling.
Requirements
- Proficiency in TypeScript, JavaScript, and Go.
- Experience with Linux systems and tooling.
- Ability to perform penetration testing using Burp Suite, OWASP ZAP, or similar tools.
- Practical experience with STRIDE threat modeling.
- Familiarity with SAST and DAST tooling to reduce risk.
- Ability to translate security findings into actionable narratives for engineering teams.
- Proven management and leadership skills.
Nice to have
- Prior experience in financial services or other highly regulated industries.

Practical notes
- Base Salary Range: $152,000 to $179,000.
- Compensation includes eligibility for performance-based bonuses and Restricted Stock Units in Blend (NYSE: BLND).
