QA Manager at Bitwarden
About the role
Lead quality assurance efforts for Bitwarden's product suite, encompassing mobile, web, and server components. You will guide the team's growth by assessing future roadmap needs against current resources and team velocity. This role involves hands-on testing, process enhancement, and fostering a culture of quality.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Recruit and develop a diverse team of quality engineers.
- Establish and report on team performance metrics and objectives.
- Define daily and weekly priorities for the QA team and its members.
- Own and refine the quality assurance process based on team, leadership, and stakeholder input.
- Research, propose, and implement new testing tools to enhance team effectiveness.
- Serve as a technical point of contact for issue resolution and guidance.
- Foster collaboration through regular team meetings and communication.
- Provide management with status updates, progress reports, and identified roadblocks from a QA perspective.
- Champion the QA team and overall product quality across the organization.
- Conduct one-on-one meetings with direct reports to address concerns, provide feedback, and support career development.
- Perform annual or semi-annual performance reviews as needed.
- Contribute directly to testing efforts and provide support when required.
- Participate in code reviews to share and acquire technical knowledge.
- Actively engage in backlog grooming, planning, and delivery cycles.
- Assist in maintaining and reviewing automated tests for mobile, desktop, web applications, and RESTful APIs.
- Develop comprehensive expertise in the entire Bitwarden product ecosystem.
Requirements
- Proven leadership abilities, including team building and providing direction.
- Prior experience in a management or team lead capacity within a technical field.
- Strong interpersonal skills with a capacity for empathy and advocacy.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
- Experience testing SaaS products for consumers and/or enterprises.
- Familiarity with lean or agile development methodologies.
- Experience testing mobile and cross-platform applications.
- A genuine interest in helping users address security and password management challenges.
- A commitment to continuous learning and skill development in automation and quality processes.
Nice to have
- Personal user of Bitwarden.
- Prior experience in a startup environment.
- Involvement with open-source projects.
- Experience specifically with mobile application testing.
- Proficiency with automated testing frameworks such as Selenium, Cucumber, Appium, or Robot Framework.
- Experience using source control systems like Git.
- Previous hands-on development experience.
- Experience with Selenium Descriptive Programming.

Practical notes
- Compensation range in the U.S. is $130,000 - $190,000 annually, subject to experience, skills, and location.
