What you'll do

• Construct and maintain user-facing applications for real-time communication, prioritizing the Android experience.
• Implement essential messaging functionalities such as live chat, group conversations, media sharing, message synchronization, offline support, and push notifications.
• Contribute to the architectural design of client applications to ensure a unified user experience across Android, iOS, and Web.
• Utilize AI development assistants like Cursor, GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, or Claude to understand, debug, and modify code in iOS and Web codebases.
• Integrate with backend services through RESTful APIs and real-time protocols like WebSocket, MQTT, or gRPC.
• Manage local data storage, offline functionality, message state, and synchronization logic across devices.
• Enhance client performance, focusing on startup times, resource usage, network efficiency, and UI responsiveness.
• Partner with backend engineers on API specifications, integration, and troubleshooting production issues.
• For Senior roles: guide less experienced engineers and influence technical direction.

Requirements

• Hold a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a comparable field.
• Possess 1-3 years of professional experience for Engineer roles, or 3-5 years for Senior Engineer roles.
• Demonstrate substantial experience developing production-ready Android applications using Kotlin and/or Java.
• Possess a strong grasp of the Android SDK, Jetpack components, asynchronous programming, and modern client-side architectures.
• Must be proficient in using AI-powered development tools (e.g., Cursor, GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, Claude) for cross-stack frontend development.
• Capable of reading, comprehending, debugging, and making appropriate modifications to iOS or Web codebases with AI assistance.
• Familiarity with real-time communication protocols such as WebSocket, MQTT, or gRPC.
• Understand core messaging concepts including delivery, read receipts, synchronization, local storage, offline capabilities, and push notifications.
• Exhibit a good understanding of client-side performance tuning, memory management, multithreading, and security best practices.
• Experience with Git, CI/CD workflows, automated testing, and Agile methodologies.
• Strong abilities in debugging, problem-solving, taking ownership, and clear communication.

Nice to have

• Prior experience building instant messaging products or communication platforms (e.g., WhatsApp, Telegram, WeChat, Discord, Slack, Messenger).
• Experience with iOS development using Swift, SwiftUI, or Objective-C.
• Frontend web development skills with TypeScript, React, Vue, or Next.js.
• Experience with cross-platform client development or full-stack mobile development.
• Knowledge of end-to-end encryption, message security, or cryptographic protocols.
• Familiarity with voice or video calling technologies, or Real-Time Communication (RTC).
• Experience with large-scale distributed messaging infrastructure.
• Background in fintech, payments, or Web3 applications.
• Contributions to open-source projects or published applications on app stores.
