About the role
The Ohana Child Development Center, located at Bandwidth's Raleigh headquarters, offers Montessori and RIE-based programs for children aged 4 months to 5 years. This role involves nurturing a collaborative learning space where children guide the curriculum, supporting Bandwidth families, and fostering a respectful environment.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Collaborate with a lead guide to set up the learning environment based on Montessori and RIE principles.
- Manage children's physical care, including diapering and toileting, using Montessori and RIE methods.
- Ensure daily care adheres to all school and classroom rules and licensing standards.
- Maintain constant visual supervision to ensure child safety.
- Regularly observe and document each child's development.
- Adjust and maintain the classroom environment based on children's observed needs.
- Keep the classroom safe, clean, and organized.
- Provide clear communication and feedback to parents.
- Model positive social behavior and guide children using positive discipline.
- Build respectful relationships with families, children, and co-teachers, valuing diverse backgrounds.
- Meet regularly with co-teachers to discuss observations, environment design, curriculum, and challenges.
- Prepare developmental reports for parents and conduct three parent conferences annually.
- Share important information about children and the classroom with co-teachers.
- Maintain a professional image reflecting Ohana and Bandwidth values.
- Complete all required training hours and certifications for licensing.
- Be open to implementing new teaching strategies as directed by the Ohana Director and Board.
- Attend faculty meetings regularly.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree preferred.
- 3 years of experience in an early childhood setting.
- Understanding of child development.
- Knowledge of Montessori and RIE caregiving techniques.
- Skilled in observation and documentation.
- Strong oral and written communication abilities.
- Ability to lift, move, or hold children up to 60 pounds.
- Ability to observe children from various distances and heights.
- Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, and use hands to feel.
Nice to have
- BA or BS degree in early childhood education or child development.
- MACTE accredited Montessori certification.
- 5+ years of experience in a Montessori infant or toddler environment.
- Knowledge of Positive Discipline.
- Fluency in languages other than English.
