About the role

Archesys Inc is looking for an experienced FHIR Software Engineer to spearhead the design and development of healthcare data exchange systems utilizing FHIR standards. This role requires a strong understanding of FHIR and related technologies, as well as the ability to provide architectural guidance and technical leadership in the integration and modernization of healthcare systems. This position is fully remote and full-time.

What you'll do

• Drive the architectural design and implementation of interoperability solutions based on FHIR standards.
• Offer technical leadership and guidance to development teams, ensuring adherence to FHIR and HL7 standards, best practices, and healthcare data security protocols.
• Work with cross-functional teams, including product owners and healthcare professionals, to convert business requirements into scalable and interoperable solutions.
• Create architectural roadmaps, define technical specifications, and align them with organizational objectives.
• Design and implement RESTful APIs to facilitate data exchange across healthcare systems.
• Assess and recommend strategies for FHIR adoption and integration, focusing on legacy system modernization and cloud migration.
• Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations such as HIPAA, safeguarding data privacy and security.
• Keep abreast of emerging FHIR standards and healthcare trends to drive innovation and continuous improvement.
• Demonstrate extensive experience with HL7 FHIR standards, including the creation and publication of custom HL7 FHIR Implementation Guides and profiles.
• Possess a solid understanding and practical experience with USCDI standards and US Core IG; familiarity with USCDI+ and QI Core IG is advantageous.
• Have proven experience in setting up and benchmarking HL7 FHIR servers for optimal performance, including testing with synthetic data.
• Document work in Confluence, write user stories, and track progress in Jira.
• Collaborate with diverse teams to ensure effective data exchange and act as a liaison between technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Communicate complex FHIR solutions clearly to both business and IT stakeholders to ensure consensus.
• Be comfortable working within CMS guidelines, with a preference for candidates experienced in quality measurement, reporting, and healthcare data exchange.

Requirements

• U.S. citizenship is mandatory.
• A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline is required.
• At least 7 years of software architecture and development experience, specifically in healthcare applications.
• Extensive knowledge of FHIR and HL7 standards is essential.
• A strong grasp of healthcare interoperability and data exchange methodologies.
• Hands-on experience with API design and implementation, particularly RESTful services and JSON/XML.
• Familiarity with other healthcare interoperability standards such as CDA, CCD, or X12.
• Proficiency in cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud, with practical experience in architecting and deploying FHIR solutions in cloud environments.
• Strong understanding of healthcare regulations, including HIPAA and CMS interoperability requirements.
• Experience with DevOps practices, including CI/CD pipelines, containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), and version control (Git).
• Excellent problem-solving abilities, strategic thinking, and capacity to thrive in fast-paced settings.
• Strong communication skills, enabling effective collaboration with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Certifications in FHIR, HL7, or cloud platforms (such as AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Azure Solutions Architect Expert) are preferred.
• Experience in government consulting is a plus.
• Management consulting experience is preferred, especially in client-facing roles.
