About the role
Apex is looking for an experienced Export Compliance Manager to lead its export compliance program. This role involves managing complex regulations for a company at the forefront of satellite technology. You will ensure adherence to all U.S. import and export laws.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Oversee an effective export program, meeting all regulatory and internal policy requirements for licensing, exemptions, training, and recordkeeping.
- Guarantee compliance with U.S. export control laws, including EAR, ITAR, OFAC, and other trade rules.
- Perform jurisdiction and classification analyses (e.g., ECCN, USML) and maintain internal classification databases.
- Prepare and submit licenses and authorizations (DSPs, TAAs, BIS), commodity jurisdiction requests, commodity classifications, and advisory opinions.
- Serve as a point of contact with government agencies like the Department of State and Department of Commerce to resolve export issues.
- Maintain internal databases of all export licenses, detailing dates, parties, and scope.
- Address information requests, analyze export compliance impacts, and review contract clauses related to export and security controls.
- Lead the company's export compliance program, managing multiple programs with high volume and complex licensing needs.
- Develop comprehensive licensing plans and provide strategic guidance for program planning.
- Create and deliver training on agreement and license limitations and provisos, updating as necessary.
- Support and conduct compliance assessments and audits.
- Develop communication strategies and training programs for disseminating controlled information.
- Screen transactions against restricted party and embargoed country lists.
- Conduct internal audits and risk assessments to identify and correct potential compliance issues.
- Monitor regulatory changes and evaluate their impact on business operations.
- Collaborate with supply chain, legal, engineering, and sales teams to ensure compliant business practices.
- Manage responses to potential violations, including disclosures and corrective action plans.
- Perform other assigned job duties and special projects as needed.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of experience in export compliance.
- Extensive knowledge of export regulations and disciplines (EAR, ITAR) and industry best practices.
- Bachelor's degree in business administration or a related field.
- Experience preparing and submitting license applications, LOEs, and TAAs.
- Proficient user of reporting sites such as DECCS, SNAP-R, and ACE.
- Capable of facilitating work across various teams, functions, leadership levels, and with external contacts.
- Ability to lead process improvements and oversee or conduct training.
- Skill in effectively communicating the importance of export compliance practices to staff and leadership.
- Strong verbal and written communication abilities.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Strong interpersonal and professional skills.
- A positive, collaborative attitude.

- Experience in satellite manufacturing or related industries (aerospace, defense, or high-tech).
- Experience with contracts or contract management.
