Platform Engineer

About the role

Apex Fintech Solutions is looking for a Platform Engineer to join the Cloud Engineering team in Austin. You will build and maintain the cloud infrastructure that supports our digital wealth management products, working alongside senior technical leaders to ensure our systems are secure and scalable.

What you'll do

• Design and manage cloud infrastructure on Google Cloud Platform using Terraform and infrastructure-as-code practices.
• Create reusable Terraform modules and templates to allow engineering teams to deploy resources independently.
• Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines for infrastructure using GitHub Actions.
• Manage core GCP services including GKE, Cloud Run, Cloud SQL, Pub/Sub, BigQuery, IAM, VPC networking, and Cloud Storage.
• Monitor infrastructure performance and participate in incident response.
• Enforce security standards through IAM policies, network segmentation, and encryption.
• Reduce manual operational tasks through automation and self-service tooling.
• Track cloud spending and provide recommendations for cost optimization.
• Maintain technical documentation and runbooks.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or equivalent work experience.
• 3-5 years of experience in infrastructure engineering, DevOps, or cloud engineering.
• Hands-on experience with GCP (GKE, Cloud SQL, IAM, VPC, Pub/Sub) or AWS (EC2, EKS, S3, RDS, IAM, VPC, Lambda).
• Proficiency in Terraform for provisioning and state management.
• Experience with containerization and orchestration using Docker and Kubernetes.
• Experience with CI/CD tools and deployment automation.
• Knowledge of networking fundamentals like DNS, load balancing, and firewalls.
• Ability to write scripts in Python, Bash, or Go.
• Understanding of cloud security principles and infrastructure compliance requirements.

Nice to have

• Experience with data orchestration tools such as Apache Airflow.
• Knowledge of observability tools like Cloud Monitoring, Prometheus, Grafana, or Datadog.
• Understanding of FinOps practices, including budgeting and tagging strategies.
• Experience with disaster recovery planning and multi-environment architecture.
• Background in financial services or regulated environments.
• Relevant cloud certifications such as GCP Professional Cloud Engineer or AWS Solutions Architect Associate.
