About the role
Join the Reactor Hardware Engineering team as a turbomachinery specialist. You will manage the full lifecycle of closed Brayton power conversion systems, from initial design to testing and ensuring long-term reliability. This role involves deep technical analysis and collaboration across engineering disciplines.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Design, analyze, construct, and test turbomachinery components for Antares reactors.
- Take complete responsibility for critical turbomachinery parts, collaborating with test, controls, and quality engineers.
- Conduct thorough mechanical analysis on all turbomachinery systems and components, reviewing drawings to meet reliability and lifespan standards.
- Develop test schematics and CAD models for proposed test setups and facilities.
- Create accurate models and new first-principles tools to assess turbomachinery performance and operability.
- Plan test schedules, aligning them with development and business objectives.
- Support both component and assembly testing, defining configurations, overseeing execution, and reviewing results.
- Lead the resolution of turbomachinery issues during development and qualification testing.
- Contribute to ongoing design enhancements for turbomachinery assemblies and subsystems, including manufacturing improvements to reduce costs.
- Participate in root cause investigations from test and field operations, implementing corrective actions.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline or physics.
- 5+ years of experience in turbomachinery design.
- Experience with CAD systems for designing assemblies and test fixtures.
- Must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee, or eligible for required U.S. Department of State authorizations due to ITAR regulations.

- Strong interpersonal skills and a collaborative approach to problem-solving.
- 5+ years of professional experience in mechanical or aerospace engineering.
- Demonstrated experience designing, building, testing, and troubleshooting mechanical systems.
- Broad knowledge of instrumentation and sensors, including integration methods and tradeoffs.
- Strong understanding of pump hydrodynamic/aerodynamic design and turbomachinery fundamentals, with hands-on hardware experience.
- Experience with LabVIEW or SIMULINK.
- Proven track record of high-impact contributions.
- Strong project management skills and effective communication of technical concepts.
- Experience with clean sheet design and manufacturing processes.
- Hands-on experience with fluid, gas, or high voltage systems.

- Compensation varies by level: Senior Turbomachinery Engineer ($140,000 - $185,000) and Staff Turbomachinery Engineer ($155,000 - $220,000). Leveling is determined during interviews.
