Reactor Software Engineer I/II at antares.
About the role
Antares is developing mass-producible microreactors for terrestrial, underwater, and space applications. We are looking for engineers to build the software infrastructure that manages reactor operations, telemetry, and hardware-in-the-loop testing environments. You will bridge the gap between physical hardware and digital control systems to ensure safe and predictable performance.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Architect software for data acquisition, command execution, state management, and fault response.
- Create unified interfaces that function across simulations, bench test stands, and full-scale reactor hardware.
- Define and implement telemetry pipelines, ensuring data is validated and actionable for operators.
- Collaborate with electrical, embedded, and safety teams to document interface requirements and communication schemas.
- Execute end-to-end feature development, including design, implementation, testing, and documentation.
- Perform root-cause analysis and debugging during hardware integration campaigns.
Requirements
- Bachelor degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Software Engineer I: 0-2 years of relevant experience.
- Software Engineer II: 2-5 years of relevant experience.
- Proficiency in Python 3, including typed code, structured data models, and testing.
- Experience developing software for hardware-integrated, embedded, or mission-critical systems.
- Familiarity with concurrent or asynchronous programming patterns such as asyncio, threads, or multiprocessing.
- Ability to design state machines, command flows, and clear system interfaces.
- Experience with Git-based collaborative workflows and technical documentation.
Nice to have
- Experience with messaging or networking protocols like MQTT, NATS, DDS, ZeroMQ, or gRPC.
- Proficiency in C, C++, or Rust.
- Background in building Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) or simulation environments.
- Familiarity with Linux, containerization, and modern Python tooling like pytest.
- Experience in aerospace, robotics, automotive, or nuclear industries.
