Senior, Civil Engineer
Job description
About the role
You will lead the civil engineering strategy that enables Antares R1 microreactors to move from concept to constructed energy assets across diverse terrains. This role owns the development of standardized site infrastructure that ensures every deployment is safe, repeatable, and optimized for rapid installation. You will evaluate prospective locations, integrating geotechnical, environmental, and logistical constraints into robust civil design packages. You will work directly with multidisciplinary teams to translate reactor requirements into detailed grading, drainage, and utility systems. Your responsibilities include developing the site layouts, infrastructure specifications, and engineering calculations required for permitting and construction. You will serve as the primary civil engineering interface between Antares and external stakeholders such as contractors, regulators, and customers. Success in this role means establishing the repeatable deployment standards that allow Antares to scale clean energy infrastructure globally while maintaining rigorous safety and quality.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Lead civil engineering activities that support the deployment of the Antares R1 microreactor from site evaluation through commissioning.
- Evaluate prospective deployment sites for geotechnical conditions, grading, drainage, utilities, transportation access, constructibility, environmental constraints, and permitting requirements.
- Develop standardized site layouts that enable repeatable deployment across commercial, defense, and government applications without requiring bespoke engineering for each location.
- Design site grading, drainage systems, stormwater management, access roads, equipment pads, underground utilities, and civil infrastructure to meet operational and regulatory needs.
- Develop reactor site layouts including reactor silos, balance-of-plant facilities, electrical infrastructure, security systems, and operational support facilities that optimize safety and functionality.
- Coordinate geotechnical investigations and incorporate subsurface conditions into foundation and site designs to ensure long-term stability and performance.
- Work closely with structural engineers to develop foundations, reinforced concrete structures, retaining walls, and below-grade facilities that align with deployment timelines.
- Coordinate with reactor, mechanical, electrical, controls, manufacturing, licensing, and construction teams to ensure deployment designs are constructible, compliant, and efficient.
- Support transportation planning, heavy-haul logistics, crane studies, equipment installation, and construction sequencing to minimize on-site disruption and schedule risk.
- Prepare engineering calculations, specifications, design drawings, cost estimates, and construction packages that cover conceptual, preliminary, and final design deliverables.
- Support permitting activities including grading permits, stormwater permits, environmental reviews, utility coordination, and site development approvals with local and federal agencies.
- Interface with customers, engineering procurement construction contractors, government agencies, and regulatory organizations throughout project execution to ensure alignment and compliance.
- Support construction, commissioning, startup, and lessons learned activities to refine standardized deployment designs and improve future site implementations.
- Develop engineering standards, design guides, and best practices that enhance deployment speed, quality, repeatability, and safety across the Antares fleet.
Requirements
- Hold a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field that provides a foundational understanding of structural, geotechnical, and infrastructure systems.
- Possess 7+ years of experience in civil engineering supporting industrial, power generation, energy, defense, or large infrastructure projects with demonstrated delivery in complex environments.
- Have experience with site development activities including grading, drainage, utilities, roadway design, and civil infrastructure that ensures reliable and compliant installations.
- Have experience developing engineering drawings, specifications, and construction documents that communicate design intent clearly to contractors and regulators.
- Demonstrate the ability to coordinate multidisciplinary engineering projects where civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, and controls systems must integrate seamlessly.
- Maintain working knowledge of applicable civil engineering codes, industry standards, and regulatory requirements relevant to energy facilities and infrastructure.
- Exhibit excellent written and verbal communication skills to convey technical information to cross-functional teams, government officials, and external stakeholders.
- Show adaptability to change in a fast-paced, highly collaborative environment where priorities evolve based on project needs and regulatory landscapes.
- Be capable of managing multiple priorities simultaneously while maintaining attention to detail in engineering calculations and design deliverables.
- Be willing to travel as required for site evaluations, stakeholder meetings, and project oversight activities in support of deployment objectives.
