Software Development Engineer, AI Assistant Team

In this position, you will be part of the AI Assistant team, responsible for developing systems that integrate AI capabilities with Amadeus' travel solutions. Your work will focus on creating, validating, and scaling AI-driven products that enhance how travelers plan and book their journeys.

What you'll do

• Develop and manage services, APIs, and integration layers that facilitate AI Assistants in providing comprehensive travel experiences.
• Write detailed specifications that guide both human and AI-generated implementations, ensuring clarity and high-quality outcomes.
• Review and refine AI-generated code and specifications, maintaining high standards for correctness, security, and performance.
• Break down projects into manageable tasks that can be fully understood and executed from start to finish.
• Collaborate with architects on system design and technical strategy, ensuring alignment with the overall vision.
• Implement systems for monitoring and continuous validation, focusing on quality throughout the development process.
• Engage with product and design teams to translate travel experience requirements into practical technical solutions.
• Work with various Amadeus platform teams to integrate content and APIs that enhance the travel experience, fostering the reuse of successful solutions.
• Continuously refine the team's practices and methodologies to optimize the use of AI tools for generating reliable outputs.

Requirements

• Minimum of 4 years of experience in software engineering, with a strong foundation in system design, API development, and production operations.
• Must be eligible to work in the United States without requiring visa sponsorship.
• Proficient in Python and at least one other backend programming language such as Java, Go, or TypeScript.
• Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools and a willingness to adopt them as a primary means of working.
• Solid understanding of modern CI/CD practices, containerization, and cloud-native architectures.
• Experience in building and maintaining APIs and microservices in a production environment.
• Ability to navigate ambiguity and adapt to iterative development processes.
• Strong skills in code review, with a focus on quality, security, and maintainability, especially regarding AI-generated outputs.
• Collaborative approach, capable of working closely with product, design, machine learning engineers, and cross-business platform teams.
• Writes precise specifications that facilitate successful implementations.
• Reviews AI-generated code with the same scrutiny as human-written code, identifying subtle errors and architectural issues.
• Thinks systemically about service connections, latency, and failure cascades, asking the right questions early in the process.
• Maintains clear traceability between specifications and their implementations.
• Communicates effectively with architects, product teams, and other stakeholders, translating technical constraints into business-friendly language.
• Familiarity with AI Assistant platform integration patterns and spec-driven development methodologies.
• Background in travel, marketplace, or multi-sided platform domains is advantageous.
• Experience with policy-as-code and automated compliance practices is a plus.
• Understanding of LLM application patterns, sufficient to build integrations.
• Experience in innovation labs or end-to-end delivery teams that take products from concept to production is beneficial.
