About the role
Alpaca seeks a Trade Surveillance Analyst to join our Financial Crimes Department. This role is crucial for maintaining market integrity and supporting our compliance surveillance program. You will monitor trading activities, investigate potential misconduct, and escalate findings as needed.

What you'll do
- Review trading activity using Surveyor by Trillium and internal systems to spot suspicious patterns.
- Investigate alerts for potential market abuse, fraud, insider trading, spoofing, layering, front-running, or information-barrier breaches.
- Document investigative findings, conclusions, and recommended actions clearly.
- Escalate significant matters to leadership, Compliance, Legal, and Risk teams.
- Assist with regulatory inquiries and internal audits related to surveillance.
- Identify and report on emerging surveillance risks and control gaps.
- Prepare reports on surveillance activity, alert trends, and investigation outcomes.
Requirements
- 5 or more years of experience in trade surveillance, AML investigations, financial crime compliance, brokerage compliance, market surveillance, or a related control function within Fintech.
- Experience working at a broker-dealer, fintech company, trading platform, exchange, introducing broker, clearing firm, market maker, proprietary trading firm, or crypto trading entity.
- Solid understanding of trading activity, order behavior, market structure, and indicators of market manipulation.
- Familiarity with market abuse typologies such as spoofing, layering, wash trading, and front-running.
- Ability to analyze trading data, identify patterns, and form well-supported conclusions.
- Proven experience documenting investigations in an audit-ready format.
- Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple tasks.
- High integrity and discretion in handling confidential information.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Hold a FINRA Series 7 license.

- Experience with Surveyor by Trillium for trade surveillance workflows.
- Hold a FINRA Series 24 license.
