About the role
This role is responsible for overseeing the complete lifecycle of global equity settlements. You will work with external partners and internal teams to ensure trades are processed accurately and on time across various international markets. Your efforts will directly contribute to the smooth operation of our brokerage services.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Manage the end-to-end process for settling global equity trades, coordinating with custodians and other parties.
- Track daily settlement activities, identifying and resolving any transactions that are at risk of failing.
- Investigate and resolve discrepancies in trades, settlement instructions, and other issues that arise.
- Oversee buy-ins, penalties, and long-standing fails, working to rectify these situations.
- Monitor trade matching through SWIFT and settlement systems, ensuring timely confirmation.
- Perform daily reconciliations of security positions and cash balances across different markets and currencies.
- Investigate and resolve breaks found during cash and position reconciliations.
- Ensure all operational activities adhere to relevant financial regulations.
- Identify and report on operational risks that could affect clients or regulatory compliance.
- Generate reports on settlement activity, reconciliation breaks, and other key operational metrics.
- Contribute to process improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency and reduce risk.
- Collaborate with engineering and product teams to automate manual workflows.
Requirements
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in brokerage operations, with a specific focus on global equity settlements.
- A solid understanding of how securities are settled within a broker-dealer environment.
- Experience working with clearing firms and global custodians.
- Familiarity with US broker-dealer operations and financial industry regulations.
- Experience with settlement platforms like BNY Nexen or comparable systems.
- Working knowledge of SWIFT settlement messages (MT54x series), Euroclear, DTCC, and international settlement practices.
- Experience settling securities in global markets, including Europe and Asia.
- Strong skills in performing cash and position reconciliations across multiple currencies and markets.
- Experience investigating trade mismatches and working with counterparties to resolve them.
- Ability to analyze operational data, identify trends, and make informed decisions.
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication abilities.
- Strong organizational skills and a high level of attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and work independently in a fast-paced setting.
- Comfortable working remotely and collaborating with distributed teams.
- Working knowledge of SQL, Metabase, or similar data analysis tools.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Workspace.
- Adaptability to changing regulations and business needs.
- Must possess the Securities Industry Essentials (SIE) Exam and Series 99 license, or obtain the Series 99 within 180 days of employment.
Nice to have
- An Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field.
- Five or more years of experience in brokerage operations, reconciliation, settlements, accounting, banking, or financial services.
- Experience with DTCC US equity settlement processing.
- Knowledge of tokenized securities or digital asset settlement.
- Experience using AI tools like Cursor or ChatGPT for workflow automation or data analysis.
- Experience supporting automation projects with engineering teams.
- Holding a Series 7 or other FINRA licenses.
- Experience in a high-growth fintech or electronic brokerage company.
