About the role
Alpaca is seeking a Product Manager to lead a critical area within our brokerage accounts infrastructure. You will be responsible for delivering API-driven account features that serve our partners and developers, focusing on a specific domain like identity verification, account types, or sub-account management. This role requires a blend of technical understanding, regulatory awareness, and a commitment to exceptional developer experience.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Take full ownership of a key accounts sub-domain, from initial concept through to production release, including driving prioritization and API design.
- Conduct discovery with partners and potential clients to understand integration challenges and translate these insights into a clear product roadmap.
- Ship new features to production regularly, creating detailed product requirements and collaborating with engineering on API specifications.
- Work closely with legal and compliance teams to ensure product decisions adhere to regulatory requirements, such as KYC/AML and identity verification.
- Enhance operational efficiency within your product area through automation and improved tooling for partners.
- Monitor and analyze product adoption metrics, such as onboarding success and API usage, to identify areas for improvement in documentation, SDKs, and rollout strategies.
- Provide clear and timely updates on product progress and outcomes to internal teams and external stakeholders.
Requirements
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in product management, engineering, consulting, or a startup environment, ideally within brokerage, fintech, payments, or identity systems.
- Proven expertise in at least one of the following account areas: KYC/identity verification, account types, sub-accounts/multi-accounts, or IRA processing, with experience shipping to production.
- Experience developing and launching B2B or developer-focused products, such as APIs or SDKs, where developers and partners are the primary users.
- Demonstrated ability to navigate and ship products within a regulated environment alongside compliance and legal departments.
- Proficiency in data analysis using SQL and a business intelligence tool.
- A Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, finance, or a related field.
- Strong business judgment to balance stakeholder needs, technical feasibility, timelines, and budget.
Nice to have
- Prior experience working directly within a broker-dealer or institutional brokerage firm.
- Understanding of the B2B2C correspondent or broker-as-a-service business model.
- Familiarity with US regulatory frameworks for accounts and identity, including FINRA KYC/AML, FATCA, and OFAC screening.
- Experience with US retirement accounts (IRAs) or international registered/tax-advantaged accounts.
- Experience in consolidating disparate account or identity systems into unified API and data models.
- Background in broker-dealer operations and identifying opportunities for automation.
- Experience using AI tools for product management tasks such as drafting requirements, synthesizing customer feedback, and data exploration.
