Financial Operations Principal at Alpaca
About the role
Alpaca is seeking a seasoned professional to ensure the financial health and regulatory adherence of our U.S. broker-dealer. This role is pivotal in scaling our fintech platform while maintaining stringent financial integrity.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Oversee the preparation and submission of all regulatory financial filings, including FOCUS Reports, and ensure compliance with SEC and FINRA financial rules.
- Manage daily financial operations, including account reconciliations, and ensure the accuracy of the firm's financial records.
- Act as the primary financial contact for regulatory bodies, auditors, and clearing firms, leading examinations and inquiries.
- Advise executive leadership on capital requirements, liquidity, and the financial implications of strategic business decisions and new product introductions.
- Develop and enhance internal controls to manage financial and operational risks effectively.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
- Possess an active FINRA Series 27 license.
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in broker-dealer financial operations or regulatory accounting.
- Proven experience in preparing and filing FOCUS Reports.
- Deep understanding of broker-dealer accounting principles, reconciliation processes, and regulatory reporting obligations.
- Proficiency in SEC Rule 15c3-1 (Net Capital Rule), SEC Rule 15c3-3 (Customer Protection Rule), and SEC Rules 17a-3 and 17a-4.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational capabilities.
- Ability to work independently in a remote setting and collaborate effectively with various teams.
Nice to have
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation.
- Experience supporting a self-clearing broker-dealer.
- Prior experience working directly with FINRA, the SEC, external auditors, and clearing firms.
- Background in a rapidly growing fintech or startup environment.
- Experience in optimizing financial operations through automation or process improvements.
- Familiarity with supporting new product launches or business expansions within a regulated broker-dealer context.
