About the role
Alpaca is seeking a seasoned engineering leader to spearhead our new market initiatives in Singapore. This role requires a blend of deep technical expertise and strong people management skills to guide a team building critical brokerage and platform services for the APAC region. You will collaborate with global teams and represent engineering interests to local stakeholders.
Key facts
What you'll do
Design and deploy scalable, high-availability brokerage systems, including gRPC microservices, REST APIs, and integrations with external vendors.
Enhance our core platform to support multi-region operations, multiple currencies, and diverse regulatory frameworks.
Ensure the quality, performance, and operational readiness of APIs for regional use.
Mentor, coach, and develop engineers in Singapore, establishing clear priorities, quality standards, and career development paths.
Support regional recruitment efforts by participating in interviews and hiring processes.
Foster knowledge sharing and a strong engineering culture across Alpaca.
Act as a senior point of contact for incidents impacting regional systems, and drive improvements in monitoring, alerting, and incident response.
Participate in on-call rotations as needed.
Collaborate with Product, Compliance, and local business teams on requirements for Singapore and the wider region.
Work effectively with engineering teams across different time zones, including those in the US and other global locations.
Requirements
Proficiency in backend development, particularly with Go or similar languages, and experience with large-scale distributed systems.
Demonstrated Staff-level technical impact, including ownership of architecture, leading technical initiatives across teams, and mentoring other engineers.
Experience in leading engineering teams, either directly or in a matrixed capacity, including conducting 1:1s, managing performance, and overseeing delivery.
Familiarity with financial services, fintech, or brokerage operations, including the trading lifecycle, settlements, and regulatory considerations.
Excellent English communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with both regional and global stakeholders.
Nice to have
Experience with the regulatory and market landscape in Singapore or the broader APAC region.
Knowledge of microservices architecture, Kubernetes, cloud platforms (GCP/AWS), and event-driven design patterns.
Active participation in open-source projects or a strong presence in the developer community.
