About the role
You own the strategic shaping of written content that advances the core mission of Alliance Defending Freedom across all donor-facing and advocacy channels. You translate deeply held beliefs about religious freedom, life, and family into clear, compelling narratives that move audiences to act. You serve as a frontline brand steward, ensuring every word reflects the integrity and urgency of the legal and cultural work on the front lines. You partner closely with the Managing Editor and other strategic teams to align messaging with organizational priorities. Your writing must quickly establish relevance, explaining why an issue matters and how it directly affects the reader's life and freedoms. You will craft, review, and refine a wide range of materials, from urgent appeals to in-depth reports, always maintaining a consistent and trustworthy voice. This role requires a rare blend of creativity, discipline, and conviction to produce content that supports both fundraising success and long-term brand building.

What you'll do
- Conduct in-depth research to transform complex legal and cultural topics into clear, audience-focused narratives that drive engagement and support.
- Function as a strategic brand guardian, making high-level decisions about tone, structure, and message hierarchy for every piece of written communication.
- Produce persuasive email campaigns, web features, direct mail pieces, digital advertisements, and multimedia content that inspire informed action.
- Synthesize emerging trends in nonprofit marketing and fundraising communications to keep ADF's messaging current and competitive.
- Collaborate with legal experts and ministry leaders to ensure accuracy, theological clarity, and alignment with the Statement of Faith.
- Edit and refine existing content across multiple platforms to improve clarity, emotional resonance, and call-to-action effectiveness.
- Manage multiple writing projects simultaneously, balancing deadlines and priorities without sacrificing attention to detail or brand standards.
- Evaluate content performance using basic metrics to inform future messaging strategies and optimize donor engagement.
- Translate dense policy and legal language into accessible stories that help supporters understand the impact of their involvement.
- Uphold ADF's core values in every sentence, ensuring that all written output reflects a commitment to truth, dignity, and strategic advocacy.
Requirements
- Hold a Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, philanthropy, nonprofit leadership, or a closely related field.
- Bring a minimum of three years of professional experience in internet marketing and/or copywriting focused on web-based audiences.
- Demonstrate a proven track record in strong fundraising, marketing, creative, and persuasive writing within a mission-driven context.
- Show skill in taking complex information and distilling it into powerful, engaging content that motivates people to act on behalf of religious freedom and related causes.
- Exhibit a deep understanding of writing principles and techniques specific to fundraising and marketing, including crafting strong headlines, thoughtfully using hyperlinks, integrating multimedia, and optimizing for search engines.
- Maintain the ability to manage multiple high-priority tasks at once with meticulous attention to detail and consistent quality.
- Work reliably from one of the listed office locations in Scottsdale, Arizona; Lansdowne, Virginia; or Dallas, Texas.
- Commit to adhering to the theological and ethical standards outlined in the ADF Statement of Faith as a condition of employment.
