What you'll do
- Conduct thorough analysis of bioacoustic data collected from various marine environments to identify patterns and behaviors of marine species.
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of researchers, marine biologists, and data scientists to design and implement research projects focused on marine acoustics.
- Develop and maintain databases for storing and managing acoustic data, ensuring data integrity and accessibility for future research.
- Utilize advanced software tools and programming languages to process and visualize acoustic data, translating complex findings into actionable insights.
- Prepare detailed reports and presentations summarizing research findings, methodologies, and recommendations for stakeholders.
- Participate in fieldwork, including deploying and retrieving acoustic monitoring equipment in diverse marine settings.
- Stay updated on the latest advancements in bioacoustics and marine research, integrating new techniques and technologies into ongoing projects.
- Assist in the preparation of grant proposals and research publications to secure funding and disseminate findings to the scientific community.
- Engage with local and international partners to foster collaborations and enhance the impact of research initiatives.
- Mentor and train junior staff or interns in data analysis techniques and best practices in bioacoustic research.
- Contribute to public outreach efforts, including workshops and presentations, to raise awareness about marine conservation and the importance of bioacoustics.
- Ensure compliance with ethical standards and regulatory requirements in all research activities.
Requirements
- A Bachelor's degree in marine biology, bioacoustics, environmental science, or a related field; a Master's degree is preferred.
- At least 3 years of experience in bioacoustic research or a related analytical role, with a strong understanding of marine ecosystems.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as R, Python, or MATLAB for data analysis and visualization.
- Experience with acoustic monitoring equipment and software, including sound analysis tools.
- Strong analytical skills, with the ability to interpret complex data sets and draw meaningful conclusions.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a proven ability to present findings to diverse audiences.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
