About the role
This role involves overseeing the financial and accounting aspects of Airwallex's core product offerings, including payments, foreign exchange, and wallet infrastructure. You will be a key partner for product, engineering, and treasury teams, ensuring financial integrity from the start of new initiatives. A significant part of this position focuses on transforming reconciliation processes through automation and AI.

What you'll do
- Lead the adoption of AI and automation for reconciliation across various financial operations, including cash and intercompany transactions.
- Act as the primary accounting expert for all product-related fund flows, ensuring proper documentation and consistent application of accounting treatments.
- Establish and maintain a governance framework for accounting decisions related to commercial agreements and new fee structures, adhering to US GAAP and local standards.
- Manage the reconciliation and financial operations team, focusing on timely and accurate execution of tasks and improving close standards to T+3.
- Monitor financial risks by providing metrics for accounts receivable balances and credit exposures to the financial risk committee.
- Oversee the development of a scalable cost engine, defining cost drivers, allocation logic, and data sources in collaboration with other teams.
- Reconcile and continuously improve topline figures for both financial and management reporting, ensuring consistency between the two.
- Collaborate with Product, Engineering, and Legal teams early in the development cycle to integrate finance requirements into new products and features.
- Support the operationalization of a new FX Hub and related intercompany structures, leading the accounting design for hedging arrangements.
- Ensure the quality of ledger data that supports reconciliation, addressing structural data issues with engineering and operations teams.
Requirements
- Over 10 years of progressive finance experience, with significant exposure to payments, fintech, or financial infrastructure.
- A Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- A builder's mindset with a genuine interest in AI and automation tools.
- Strong knowledge of payment product accounting, including clearing, settlement, FX revaluation, intercompany, and revenue recognition.
- Proven experience as a people manager, capable of developing teams and fostering a high-performance culture.
- Ability to manage stakeholders effectively, influencing decisions and communicating complex accounting information to non-finance audiences.
Nice to have
- Prior leadership experience in product finance, technical accounting, or financial operations.
- CA/CPA or an equivalent professional certification.
- Familiarity with data concepts, SQL, or scripting.
