Senior Data Scientist, Analytics

About the role

This position involves analyzing and optimizing Airwallex's business lending portfolio. You will use data to understand portfolio performance, identify risks, and recommend strategies to improve credit quality and support business expansion. Your work will translate complex questions into clear analytical frameworks and actionable insights.

What you'll do

• Monitor and analyze the performance of current business lending portfolios, tracking trends in delinquency, early warning signs, and credit quality.
• Identify new risks within the portfolio and offer practical solutions to reduce potential losses.
• Help evaluate and refine portfolio-level credit strategies, ensuring they align with regional credit risk policies.
• Prepare reports, risk dashboards, and summaries for management to aid in senior leadership decisions.
• Work with Operations and Product teams to ensure consistent application of credit policies and effective risk controls.
• Participate in regular portfolio reviews, stress testing, and credit risk assessments.
• Provide analytical support for regulatory reporting, audits, and internal governance needs.

Requirements

• 3 or more years of experience in credit risk analytics, risk strategy, portfolio analytics, or a similar quantitative role.
• Bachelor's degree or higher in Quantitative Finance, Statistics, Computer Science, Business Analytics, Data Science, or a related quantitative field.
• Proficiency in SQL and Python, with the ability to convert data into practical insights.
• Strong problem-solving skills and experience working with large datasets.
• Keen attention to detail and the ability to spot data discrepancies.
• Experience collaborating with various stakeholders to solve business challenges.

Nice to have

• Experience in both risk analytics and modeling.
• Experience in SME lending.
• Hands-on experience with ECL modeling, credit strategy analysis, or credit risk assessment.
• Experience designing credit policies, decision strategies, or performance monitoring frameworks.
• Familiarity with stress testing, governance, audit, or regulatory reporting processes.
