Engineering Manager, AI Tooling at Airtable.
About the role
Airtable is scaling its platform to integrate AI directly into user workflows, enabling teams to build powerful applications without starting from scratch. We are looking for an engineering leader to manage the AI Tooling and Field Agents team, focusing on driving product adoption and maximizing the utility of our native AI features. You will guide a team of 8 to 12 engineers in a high-visibility environment, balancing rapid growth experiments with robust product quality.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Manage, mentor, and grow a team of 8-12 engineers focused on Field Agent adoption and AI tooling.
- Define the technical roadmap and execution strategy for increasing AI token consumption and Agent weekly active usage.
- Partner with Product, Design, and Data Science to validate hypotheses and ship features that improve user discovery and success.
- Architect and oversee rigorous experimentation, including ramp plans, instrumentation, and post-launch analysis.
- Balance growth-focused initiatives with defensive measures like spend visibility, credit transparency, and safety guardrails.
- Collaborate with Sales, Services, and Customer Success to resolve enterprise adoption blockers related to billing, permissions, and performance.
- Establish operational standards including sprint planning, status updates, and clear ownership models.
Requirements
- Experience managing and developing high-performing product engineering teams.
- Proven track record of shipping user-facing products with measurable impact on business or usage metrics.
- Experience building in domains such as AI, ML, automation, developer tooling, or product-led growth.
- Ability to lead teams through ambiguity and shifting priorities.
- Strong technical judgment across full-stack development.
- Excellent communication skills for coordinating with cross-functional partners and leadership.
- Experience hiring and coaching senior engineers and technical leads.
Nice to have
- Background in experimentation platforms, growth loops, or usage-based business models.
- Experience with billing, metering, or quota systems.
- Experience working with enterprise customers and GTM teams.
- Understanding of accessibility standards and inclusive product design.

Practical notes
- Base salary range for San Francisco: $281,000 - $379,000.
- Compensation includes restricted stock units, benefits, and potential incentive pay.
