Sr. Engineering Manager, Enterprise Platform

About the role

You will lead the Performance and Architecture team, which manages the core backend processes powering every Airtable base. This role focuses on scaling our infrastructure to support enterprise-grade performance and executing the 100x initiative to rewrite our database engine in Rust.

What you'll do

• Manage and scale a team of systems engineers focused on the backend of our product.
• Serve as a technical point of contact for major enterprise customers during pre- and post-sales engagements.
• Collaborate with staff and senior individual contributors to guide technical strategy and backend architecture.
• Work with engineering leadership to ensure high-quality product development and sustainable systems.
• Mentor engineers at all levels, from early-career to senior, to increase team impact.
• Establish operational processes to maintain agility while managing system reliability and on-call incidents.

Requirements

• 5+ years of engineering experience, including previous staff or technical lead roles.
• 4+ years of management experience.
• Background in systems engineering with a focus on product performance and user experience.
• Experience managing technical relationships with enterprise customers or large partners.
• Proven ability to partner with Product Managers on roadmap definition and trade-offs.
• Experience with large-scale system architecture and operational incident response.
• Ability to manage and prioritize multiple complex work streams.

• Salary range: $281,000 to $365,700 USD.
