About the role
Airtable is seeking a Design Technologist to shape and expand its design system. This individual contributor position offers significant independence and cross-functional collaboration. The role focuses on evolving the design system and exploring how AI can transform UI development.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Work with the current design system, evaluating its status, setting future directions with other contributors, and bridging the gap between design specifications and actual implementation.
- Build and release components and design tokens, while also refining contribution standards with the wider community of designers and engineers who maintain the system.
- Formulate and promote a perspective on AI-assisted UI development, experimenting with tools, workflows, and system structures to make AI a reliable partner for anyone writing UI code, including engineers, designers, and product managers.
- Create and maintain the AI tooling layer for UI, such as Claude skills, Cursor rules, and LLM-readable documentation, to improve the quality and speed of UI coding.
- Partner with designers, engineers, and accessibility specialists to enhance the user experience delivered by the system, through advocacy, improved documentation, clearer patterns, and tools that simplify correct implementation.
Requirements
- 8 or more years of experience working at the intersection of design and engineering, including inheriting and developing existing systems.
- Deep understanding of design tokens, component architecture, theming, and WCAG accessibility standards.
- Ability to influence others through the quality of your work, clear communication, and strong relationships.

Practical notes
The base salary range for this position in San Francisco, New York City, and Los Angeles is $224,000 to $317,200 USD. Total compensation includes benefits, restricted stock units, and may include incentive compensation.
