Head of Public Affairs at Airalo
About the role
This is a foundational role to establish and lead Airalo's public affairs efforts globally. You will be responsible for shaping our external interactions with governments, regulators, and industry groups worldwide. This position requires a strategic thinker who can proactively influence the regulatory landscape for a rapidly expanding technology company.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Develop and implement Airalo's worldwide public affairs strategy, aligning with company objectives and expansion plans.
- Establish the public affairs function, creating necessary processes, selecting external consultants, and potentially building a team.
- Proactively identify and analyze future regulatory changes to anticipate and address potential challenges.
- Lead direct engagement with government bodies, telecommunications regulators, and consumer protection agencies in key markets.
- Represent Airalo in regulatory discussions, public forums, and industry working groups.
- Cultivate strong relationships with policymakers and industry leaders to establish Airalo as a respected voice.
- Collaborate with the Legal team on regulatory enforcement matters.
- Monitor and analyze policy and regulatory developments across APAC, EMEA, LATAM, and North America.
- Define and maintain Airalo's stances on critical issues such as eSIM licensing, data privacy, consumer rights, and digital market rules.
- Build and manage relationships with industry associations, influencing their policy workstreams.
- Serve as a senior representative for Airalo at industry events and conferences.
- Work closely with Legal, Compliance, Communications, and Commercial departments to integrate policy considerations into business decisions.
- Provide regulatory assessments to support market entry initiatives.
- Ensure consistency between external communications and internal messaging.
Requirements
- A minimum of 10 years of experience in public affairs, government relations, policy, or regulatory affairs, gained either in-house at a technology or telecommunications company or at a consultancy serving this sector.
- A proven ability to influence regulatory outcomes and manage government relations programs across multiple countries.
- A thorough understanding of the regulatory environment for telecommunications, the digital economy, or platform services.
- The capacity to operate independently as the initial hire, establishing structure and processes without immediate team support.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication abilities.
- Strong political acumen, with the skill to articulate Airalo's interests effectively to government stakeholders.
- Comfort working remotely across different time zones in a fast-paced, business-focused setting.
