Senior/Staff Data Engineer

About the role

Agoda is seeking a Senior or Staff Data Engineer to join a specialized platform team focused on natural-language analytics. You will develop a governed knowledge layer that serves as the foundation for our internal data applications, AI assistants, and analytical tools.

Key facts

What you'll do

• Define and manage governed metrics, dimensions, joins, and data grains across various business domains.
• Create versioned, peer-reviewed assets that include expert context, glossaries, and validated query patterns.
• Implement automated validation for data freshness and drift, treating stale information as a critical production failure.
• Develop APIs to provide deterministic data access for downstream applications and agents.
• Build workflows that allow domain experts to propose and publish knowledge assets without requiring manual engineering deployments.
• Collaborate with product, analytics, and platform teams to establish quality standards and access control policies.

Requirements

• Minimum 4 years of professional experience in data platform engineering, analytics engineering, or software engineering with a focus on complex data modeling.
• Hands-on experience with semantic or metrics layers such as dbt metrics or LookML.
• Advanced SQL skills and experience with analytical modeling in OLAP or data warehouse environments.
• Experience with knowledge engineering workflows, including version control and peer review processes.
• Ability to design for multiple API consumers rather than building for single-use dashboards.
• Strong communication skills for coordinating with cross-functional technical and product teams.

Nice to have

• Experience with open-source semantic engines like Cube or MetricFlow.
• Background in building tool interfaces for LLM-powered applications.
• Familiarity with retrieval systems, NL-to-data products, or evaluation harnesses.
• Proficiency in Node.js or Python service development.
• Experience working within large-scale travel or e-commerce analytics environments.
