Intern (m/f/d) Vision Software Development

About the role

The Industrial Application team is seeking an intern to assist with the creation, testing, and deployment of vision systems for robotics and AGV projects. You will participate in the full product lifecycle, ranging from software creation and camera calibration at our Munich headquarters to on-site commissioning at client facilities.

What you'll do

• Build and maintain software for 2D and 3D vision systems, including API-based development using vendor SDKs.
• Perform camera setups and calibrations, including nine-point, checkerboard, and 3D hand-eye methods for 2D area-scan, line-scan, and 3D sensors.
• Debug and tune vision algorithms, covering QR-code navigation, V-SLAM, and deep-learning detection models.
• Create Python scripts for automated testing and analyze data logs to validate system performance.
• Manage data exchange between vision IPCs and PLCs using TCP/IP, Modbus TCP, and ROS/ROS2.
• Travel to customer locations to install and troubleshoot vision systems on production lines.
• Coordinate with robotics and software engineers to integrate vision solutions into complete systems.

Requirements

• Current student or recent graduate in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, Automation, or a related field.
• Practical experience with 2D/3D camera hardware and calibration techniques.
• Knowledge of vision-based AGV navigation logic and deep-learning deployment (e.g., YOLO).
• Proficiency in C++ and Python, including SDK integration and Linux (Ubuntu) usage.
• Understanding of industrial communication protocols like TCP/IP, Modbus TCP, and ROS/ROS2.
• Ability and willingness to travel for domestic and international on-site commissioning.
• Professional proficiency in English or German.

Nice to have

• Prior experience with industrial commissioning or field service.
• Familiarity with OpenCV or PCL.
• Knowledge of PROFINET or EtherCAT.
• Experience with Git, CMake, or Docker.
• Proficiency in Chinese.
