About the role
We are seeking a Legal Counsel to own commercial legal strategy for revenue. In this position, you will guide global transactions and partnerships while shaping product risk and building merchant trust. Your work will directly support Affirm's mission to deliver honest financial products. The role is full-time and remote within the United States. You will operate with significant autonomy to drive contract lifecycle management and ensure legal risk is identified early. You will serve as a key advisor to commercial teams on transaction structure and regulatory alignment. Your contributions will establish scalable processes that enable growth without compromising compliance standards. You will act as a strategic partner, balancing business velocity with prudent legal safeguards.

What you'll do
You will draft intricate commercial contracts from first concept through final execution across many regions. You will set terms and conditions that balance merchant growth, legal safeguards, and compliance for intricate revenue initiatives. You will partner with sales and finance to align contract language with commercial goals while controlling risk and maintaining clarity. You will educate internal teams on clause usage, policy updates, and best practices so agreements move efficiently through review. You will investigate issues in existing contracts and document resolutions that keep relationships stable and compliant internationally. You will create adaptable template language that supports new revenue streams while fitting diverse regulatory environments and business needs. You will coordinate reviews among tax, risk, and product teams to align commercial structures with internal policies and external rules. You will build trust with partners in the U.S. and abroad by maintaining consistent communication and providing transparent legal guidance. You will manage competing priorities to ensure critical transactions progress without unnecessary delay. You will interpret complex regulatory updates and translate them into actionable contract provisions for commercial teams.
Requirements
You hold a JD from an accredited institution and are currently licensed in at least one U.S. state. You bring five or more years of complex commercial drafting and negotiation experience, ideally focused on revenue-generating agreements. Prior in-house and law-firm experience is a plus. You demonstrate strong project management, organizing priorities and remaining composed under demanding workloads. You produce high-quality legal work while managing several deals concurrently on tight timelines. You exercise sharp judgment to make timely, pragmatic choices amid uncertainty with incomplete information. You show a strong work ethic, an ownership mindset, and a readiness to handle whatever duties arise without hesitation. You handle data privacy terms related to CCPA, GLBA, and GDPR within commercial contract discussions and reviews. You communicate clearly with internal and external partners to negotiate terms and align on complex legal expectations. You adapt to fast growth, show enthusiasm for learning, and thrive in a changing commercial landscape. This role requires humility integrity and a sense of humor. You take your work seriously, but not yourself.
Nice to have
Experience drafting and negotiating data privacy terms, including CCPA, GLBA and GDPR contract terms, is a valuable asset.
