About the role
This position is fully remote and focuses on enhancing the delivery of digital services in the public sector. As a key member of the team, you will lead efforts in developing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines while mentoring junior engineers. Your contributions will help shape impactful solutions for various federal agencies.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Design, implement, and oversee automated CI/CD pipelines using GitLab CI and Jenkins, ensuring efficient build and deployment processes.
- Create and manage deployment tools, reusable GitLab CI templates, and Terraform modules for multiple application development teams.
- Maintain secure Docker images for Java, Python, and Angular applications, deploying them on AWS ECS, EKS, or Fargate with minimal downtime.
- Implement security measures and quality checks in the CI/CD pipeline at the commit and merge stages.
- Optimize IAM configurations to adhere to least-privilege standards without affecting live services.
- Develop and execute a roadmap for DORA metrics to enhance the CI/CD capabilities within the program.
- Write and maintain documentation related to deployments and architecture, and conduct knowledge-sharing sessions with engineering teams.
- Engage in SAFe ceremonies, including PI planning and roadmap development for CI/CD initiatives.
- Assist in recruitment by evaluating candidates' technical assignments and participating in interviews.
Requirements
- A bachelor's degree and at least 8 years of relevant experience, or equivalent experience in lieu of a degree.
- Must fulfill federal suitability criteria and pass a background check as part of the hiring process.
- Over 5 years of practical experience with AWS, Terraform (or similar infrastructure as code), and Git/GitLab in production settings.
- Experience supporting five or more engineering teams through a shared DevOps or platform function.
- Proven track record in designing and implementing CI/CD pipelines in GitLab and/or Jenkins, including security and quality checks.
- Strong knowledge of container technologies using Docker and orchestration on AWS ECS/EKS/Fargate.
- Understanding of DevSecOps practices, including static application security testing, dependency scanning, and automated vulnerability management.
- Excellent communication and documentation skills, with a comfort level in a collaborative Agile/SAFe environment.
- Extensive experience in creating reusable CI/CD templates and Terraform module libraries for use by multiple teams.
Nice to have
- Experience working in federal environments or familiarity with FedRAMP, FISMA, or ATO processes.
- Background in supporting SAFe or scaled Agile delivery teams as a platform or infrastructure provider.
- Knowledge of Kubernetes or similar container orchestration technologies.
