About the role
A Place for Mom is seeking an experienced Senior DevOps Engineer to strengthen its cloud infrastructure, platform engineering capabilities, site reliability, and security posture. In this position, you will serve as a technical contributor responsible for steering cloud operations, automation strategies, and reliability initiatives. You will work cross-functionally with various departments to ensure that infrastructure decisions align with broader organizational goals. Your contributions will have a direct bearing on developer velocity, the robustness of security controls, and the overall stability of the platform. This role offers the opportunity to shape the technical direction of a critical engineering function within a fully remote environment.

What you'll do
- Architect, provision, and maintain scalable, secure, and highly available cloud environments leveraging Amazon Web Services.
- Spearhead initiatives designed to amplify developer productivity and refine deployment workflows for greater efficiency.
- Implement Infrastructure as Code using Terraform to create reusable modules, enforce standards, and ensure consistent environment provisioning.
- Design, build, and continuously optimize continuous integration and continuous delivery pipelines to accelerate software release cycles.
- Enhance observability by advancing monitoring, centralized logging, and alerting strategies to reduce mean time to detection and resolution.
- Partner closely with software engineering teams to elevate system reliability, performance tuning, and capacity planning.
- Coordinate with security stakeholders to harden cloud security postures, manage compliance requirements, and implement guardrails.
- Evaluate, prototype, and integrate emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence tooling, to modernize engineering workflows.
- Lead technical design reviews and infrastructure architecture discussions to drive consensus on critical platform decisions.
- Mentor engineering peers and actively contribute to the evolution of DevOps and Site Reliability Engineering best practices across the organization.
Requirements
- Minimum of seven years of professional experience in DevOps, Platform Engineering, Site Reliability Engineering, or a directly related discipline.
- Deep, hands-on expertise designing, operating, and securing complex infrastructure within Amazon Web Services.
- Advanced proficiency with Terraform for infrastructure provisioning, state management, and module development.
- Demonstrated experience orchestrating and managing containerized workloads using platforms such as Amazon ECS, EKS, or upstream Kubernetes.
- Extensive background constructing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines utilizing tools like GitHub Actions, Jenkins, or GitLab CI.
- Practical familiarity with observability stacks including New Relic, Datadog, or Amazon CloudWatch for metrics, traces, and logs.
- Strong command of networking concepts, cloud security frameworks, and distributed systems architecture principles.
- Fluency in scripting and automation languages, specifically Python or Bash, for tooling and operational automation.
- Exceptional communication and stakeholder influencing abilities to drive alignment across technical and non-technical audiences.
- Proven track record of leading complex infrastructure projects from inception through delivery and mentoring junior team members.
Nice to have
- Experience administering large-scale, multi-account AWS environments using AWS Organizations or similar governance frameworks.
- Background building internal developer platforms or self-service infrastructure capabilities to abstract complexity.
- Practical application of Site Reliability Engineering principles, including defining and measuring Service Level Objectives and Indicators.
- Exposure to AI-assisted development tools or cloud-native AI/ML services to augment engineering productivity.
- Holding relevant advanced cloud certifications such as AWS Certified DevOps Engineer Professional or Certified Kubernetes Administrator.
