1Password is seeking a Principal Developer Advocate to lead our engagement with the developer community. You will be instrumental in shaping our advocacy strategy for a new era of developer learning, focusing on technical depth and authentic communication. This role involves fostering public conversations, creating authoritative content, and identifying high-impact channels to drive product awareness and adoption.

United States: $228,000 - $342,000 USD annually
Canada: $212,000 - $318,000 CAD annually

What you'll do
Develop and execute a developer advocacy strategy tailored to modern developer interaction patterns, including generative AI and online communities.
Create and publish technical content, including blog posts, tutorials, and reference architectures, to educate and engage developers.
Represent 1Password at major developer conferences like AWS re:Invent and KubeCon, and translate in-person interactions into lasting impact.
Act as a conduit for developer feedback, synthesizing insights to inform product development and improve user workflows.
Collaborate with engineering, product, and design teams to integrate AI thoughtfully into our development lifecycle and product offerings.
Build tools and provide training to empower other 1Password employees in their community engagement efforts.
Requirements
A minimum of 10 years in technical roles such as software engineering, platform engineering, or solution engineering.
At least 5 years of experience in public-facing developer advocacy roles, championing developer needs internally.
Demonstrated ability to engage with developer communities, handling complex situations with empathy and good judgment.
Proven experience collaborating with partners on technical and marketing initiatives.
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with a track record of delivering content across various formats including talks, articles, and code.
A recognized and credible voice within the industry, with a substantial technical audience.

Experience with security-focused developer communities or products, such as Identity, Auth, or DevSecOps.

This is a remote position, and candidates must be based in the United States, Canada, or the United Kingdom.
Travel for in-person engagement, including annual offsites, team meetings, and industry events, is expected.
Compensation includes base salary, immediate participation in benefits programs (health, dental, retirement matching), generous paid time off, and an equity grant.
